I should have make myself more clear. I have used the seeds from the common hybrids sold in the big box stores. The common ones. I have seeds from species type as yours from 'Papillio' or the cyber kinds which produce some thing wild. 'La Paz' cyber, 'Ruby Meyer' cyber, crossed included. These you don't normally buy in your big box stores. Also if you live in a climate that could grow them out side by the thousands then go for it and you will get some exciting hybrids.
For all the time and trouble to grow these plants, I prefer to direct my attention to Clivia. I purchased some exotic ones from China and I get a good germination rate and are worth hundreds of dollars in 5 years time. I just purchased 20 variegated clivia seeds for $16 total including shipping. Much more worth the time and effort.
