I am not certain of the winter hardiness of Dioscorea batatas. I know the green is hardy here in Oklahoma & my Variegated one is too. And I have seen the green one growing very vigorously (weedy) here.
I will say that I do not believe Dioscorea bulbifera would be hardy, most people I know that grow this here bring bulbs in over the winter.
