You are so right. I love 99% of the accidents but not 99% of the ones I thought would be perfect matches. Either something fails to grow or grows much too tall or just is the right plant in the wrong spot.

Just look how this lovely iris looks silly by the roses. If I had a dozen of the same irises it may have worked but the one lonely corm that remained decided to grow and I wasn't about to move it.
