I have a trellis with 5 different grapes growing on it, underplanted with various geraniums. I would like to intertwine something with the grapes, perhaps a moonflower. Whatever it is would need to be able to poke its way above or around the grape leaves, which get really thick in the summer. Or my other thought is perhaps a climbing nasturtium at the foot of each grape, since those don't get overly tall and perhaps would just cover the bare grape trunks. Not sure how needy the grapes might be for nutrients. I don't usually feed them and they do fine. The geraniums also do well. Any thoughts?
Trellis in June and again in the fall to show how the grapes fill in. Maybe sweet peas, which would put on an early show and then let the grapes take over? Still thinking...
