My mother-in-law used to hybridize daylilies when my husband was young. Her father worked at Brookhaven Labs in NYC, and she would send him seeds. He would radiate them in a very carefully measured way (or at least as carefully as they could back then), and then send her back the seeds and she would plant them and take very careful notes about what characteristics the seedlings produced. It would be neat to find her notes, if they still exist.... She died several years before I met Charles, and he doesn't know which sibling ended up with her daylily notes (if any).
