Variegated plants are my favorites but it is a surprise to me how many on the list can be invasive unless you plant them in an area where you can let them go. I find it amusing that Goutweed (Bishop's Weed) is number #1. It is my #1 nemesis as I have been trying to remove it permanently from my beds for several years. Here it is certainly invasive and I had no idea when I ordered it several years ago. It is pretty in a mass but takes over. It needs to be contained. Friends put it around a tree with a brick border and that looked very nice and was easier to control. It would not be my first choice at all.

Houttuynia (Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon') is my second nemesis! I had 4 plants and now am ripping out every year, which is even more difficult that the Goutweed! My husband loves the plant because it does look beautiful en masse and especially when it blooms in June but it has killed other plants I had in that area. So plant with caution and allow room for it to spread. I am in Zone 6.

The Zebra Grass I have is also quite a spreader along with Carex morrowii 'Ice Dance', which is not listed. Again, one must take into account how much space you have and how much you are willing to devote to the spreading.

I have most of the Hostas listed and am always an easy prey for variegated Hostas!

Glad to see this list but there are definitely other varieties I would consider over some of the above such as Buddleia Harlequin, Sedums ( like Frosty Morn and Tricolor), Brunneras (Variegata, Looking Glass, Jack Frost, Emerald Mist, King's Ransome, Silver Wings, etc), Calamintha grandiclora ‘Variegata, Caryopteris Snow Fairy, Haskonechloa Grasses (like Aureola, Fubuki, and Albo Striata), the Tiarellas, Lamiums, and the new Knautia Macedonica Variegated, to name a few!
