Jo, I have read that chx grit comes in a couple of sizes but if what is nearby only offers one size, then I think you are stuck unless they are willing to special order the size you want for you. Also, if the chx grit is size of sand but comparable to a big sand (as opposed to play sand) then maybe you could use it to mix into the soil and at the same time look for the larger granules for the top dressing to help with rot?
