I just uploaded the enhancement to the Search by characteristics form (both the general one that searches all plants, as well as the one that searches the custom databases.)
At the bottom of the search form you'll see a new checkbox that, if checked, will restrict your search to plants that exist in your own personal plant list. I tested it and it seems to work well.
Give it a try and see if it's what you were hoping for.
