Baby #2 left the nest today. This time I got to witness it. Late this afternoon the little one, after much wing flapping, flew a couple feet into this purple yard art butterfly that is attached to the patio roof. After several minutes it flew to the beam on the patio. More waiting , then it flew a couple more feet to land in the top of a small fig tree. There it stayed much longer, eyes wide, looking up, down, right, left, almost with the expression of a child on Christmas morning seeing its world full of new things. Smiling While there two Hummers flew quickly past within inches of the baby but did not land. I suspect that it was the Mom and other baby. I then came in for a minute and as I turned to go back out the baby took off and flew in a downward direction and that was the last I saw of the little one. Crying
