Elaine, I think we have a very similar approach to potting Orchids! Thumbs up
Some years ago, I planted a bunch of the smaller Cattleyas into Bonsai pots. A few later I simply popped those which were totally overgrown as is into another pot or basket or simply put a chain around them and hung them up. I love Coconut fiber, the Orchids seem to like it, it is cheap and every nursery sells it by the yard. I always loosen it up first and wet it thoroughly before I anchor a plant with it.
I am right now fashioning some basket from that white wire cage roll and I am lining it with that stuff.
