Ann - Setting a pod on the scape means pollinating it and hoping a pod is produced. If so, the scape will stay green much longer and will give the prolif time to develop roots.
Avedon - I really love the look and color of Orchid Corsage! Beautiful!
Jon - Nice bloom shots today! So glad some of the seeds I sent you are producing some healthy plants. What are the "crosses" that I sent you of the two seedling fans in your photo?
Info about proliferations on daylilies:
I try to keep the prolifs on the scape as long as possible to give them time to develop enough roots to sustain them when they are separated from the mother plant. All you need is a few small roots showing. I then do as others suggested by cutting the scape about an 1-1/2" below the prolif and 1-1/2" above it. If it has roots developing, you can plant it in a small container and let it grow. If not, try placing them in a cup with just the bottom of the prolif in the water. Don't submerge the entire plant. Just enough to try to give it some water to help it survive once it is cut from the scape. Looks like your hybridizing project is doing very well! Keep up the great job you are doing!
