I got lost somewhere in this thread, the advice recommended seems to have been to leave them in the ground and put a mulch over them, but they were not in the ground.
I also did not understand the part about providing dormancy, what if they were not planted in the ground but left in the pot (container) what ever they are planted in? Will someone be kind enough to "unbefuddle" me.
