For as many earthquakes as I've lived through they still freak me out.
The bldg. I live in was built in 1928 and survived the 1933 Long Beach earthquake unscathed. They built things much sturdier back in the day...but even still, half of this city got leveled when that one hit.
When we lived near L.A. in the '70's the Sylmar earthquake toppled a 60 gallon fish tank I had in my bedroom. After the initial hoopla of that incident we looked outside and the block wall separating us from the neighbors had come down. Of course, my dad rebuilt the wall with that same hideous pink concrete block. We didn't see our cat for over a week after that quake.
In the Northridge earthquake entire sections of the 10 Fwy collapsed. To this day I refuse to stop under one of those overpasses at a red light.
