I don't think sugar is necessary or lime for that matter. They are sweet but not super sweet and have a little bit of tartness as well, they are really, really refreshing on a hot day. I put them in the refrigerator and then just eat them with a spoon. Perhaps the ones up north have traveled too far or been picked before they were ripe?
A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.
