You can also winter your brugs in a dormant state. Place your containered brugs in any dark area of your home where temps will get cold but will not freeze (basements are ideal for this, some people use their garages). Water the pot very little (like once a month) just to keep the roots from completely drying out. This will force the plant to go dormant. It lose many or all leaves. The roots are what you want to keep alive. You may lose everything above the soil line even, but its those roots that count. When the weather begins to warm up (and all danger of frost is over) you can bring the container out of the dark and begin a regular watering routine. Fertilize with a weak solution until you begin to see significant rebound of the plants. This method can be used for plants that you have grown in containers all summer or those larger plants that are pruned and dug up at the end of the season.
