Serviceberry was also on my list, I'd kind of forgotten about that. I have one in the front field called Autumn Brilliance that gets real nice fall color.

I just spoke with John out at Christianson's and he suggested a couple other dogwoods - Venus, Starlight, or Colrigo Giant. All are crosses between our native nutallii and asiatic dogwoods - less susceptible to anthracnose but not immune. He suggested removing the cherry and preparing my site now (including digging the hole), then planting out in late Oct/Nov which is when they get their new stock in. That takes a bit of pressure off...

What is the form of the Pacific Fire vine maple, as opposed to our natives? Pic? I could also dig a native up from out back, but I've had iffy luck with that. It might also be too sunny for a vine maple (?)
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
