Even if you have to set it on the ground like the dog bowl one, the poor birdies get awfully thirsty in the winter. I recently moved to north Fl. from the lower end of the state where there are no freezing days & several times our birdbaths have frozen here. Broke my heart the 1st time I saw them bright & early in the morning from my kitchen window desperately trying to get water out of the frozen birdbath. At least here I can go out & pour some water in it & it will thaw it enough they can drink until the whole thing thaws out. I notice they never need water so early in the morning in all the other seasons but when it has been a very cold night, they sure need to drink early, early.
