I believe that, like any other plant, they bloom when mature enough to do so, and cultural conditions don't prevent it. I believe with all of my heart that it's NOT caused by being pot/root bound, a condition that often coincides with maturity. Why the credit always goes to potbound instead of maturity is confounding to me.

All I know for sure is that when such a gift appears, it's always a thrill!

Totally agree with you here Tiffany!
Interestingly enough, I repotted a couple of mature and very pot/root bound clumps about three years ago--one I just up-ed the pot size--a little less than double--and the other I split into two clumps and repotted half in the original pot and the other half in a same size new pot. They had been in their original pots for about 12-15yrs and had never bloomed. All three bloomed within about a month of repotting--one had only one bloom, the other two each had two. (and OMG what a fantastic surprise--it was like late Feb. or early March and the whole house smelled wonderful in the middle of the night Big Grin )
Anyway--I can't really know what exactly triggered blooming, but it sure as heck was NOT being pot/root bound.
