This year, I think a lot of deer from the back country came to town, too. Starving deer will eat anything and, yes, they are destructive to our gardens and lawns. However, I think the problem with our large town deer population is even greater than that.
Deer ticks carry disease and I've been told that if I have a lot of deer on my property, I have to check my cat a couple of times a day for ticks.
Another problem is the auto accidents caused by deer simply because they don't know the rules of the road.
The biggest problem, from my point of view, is that the natural predators of deer, in our area, the cougars, follow their prey to town. We have had more big cat problems this year than we have had in any prior year in the ten years I've lived up here.
I think they are beautiful animals and now that rains have come, they are back up on my neighbor's green lawn and I like them there.
