Well, I had a weird thing happen. One of my bromeliads bloomed (not weird) and I actually managed to find the tag on the ground (now, that is weird!) but it got weirder. The tag read "Cannelia Claudia". I went to the Florida Council of Bromeliad Societies photo index (LOVE that site) http://www.fcbs.org/pictures.h... I see that there is a genus called Connellia, but no Claudia. Hmm...so I did some major Googling and I think I found out what my plant is. I had a hunch it was a bigeneric and it appears to be Quesistrum 'Claudia': http://registry.bsi.org/?genus...
I tell you, I buy the weirdest things I can find. Now, as for pictures of my plant...it's not real pretty because it's been living under a plumbago for a while. I took it out and hosed it off so the leaves look a little darker and shinier than usual. It used to be in a pot but it partially broke out. You can kind of see that in the picture of the whole plant. I also have a photo of the old bloom, which has been there for over a year - no kidding! And now, the new bloom that just popped up. I'll keep you guys updated as it opens more.
Also, I was playing with my camera and took these pictures of Aechmea gamosepala. I want to add them to the plant database. Do you think this is a picture of the stamen and pistils or how should I categorize it? I always feel like I'm calling bromeliad parts the wrong things. You know how we say "bloom" when we mean "inflorescence" and such.
