I was given a amaryllis plant which is living under a lamp in my kitchen. It started out as a 2 inch bulb and didn't grow at all for a few weeks. I almost threw it away because it looked dead. I thought I would try one more thing before throwing it out... I peeled away the dead leaves from the top of the bulb and watered it a little more... It has grown 10 inches in 2 weeks! In fact when I went to bed last night the plant measured at 11 1/2 inches tall from top of the soil to top of leaf and this morning it measured 12 inches! 1/2 inch over night. First thing this morning I walked into the kitchen to find the leaves have toppled over... I'm new to this plant growing so I'm not sure what or how to care for the plant now... I just grabbed a couple of thin wooden picks and tied a ribbon around the leaves and picks very losly where I wouldn't damage the leaves... Wondering, if I did it right or if I should do something else?

I really want this plant to live. My friend who is battling cancer gave me the plant so it has sentimental value.
I appreciate any help you may give...
