Hope, yes, Hilary, Hope. An excellent point! What is a garden - any garden - without hope? Hope for the health and growth of all of our plants, hope for their beauty (in and of themselves, and that we have arranged them harmoniously), hope that pests and critters and all bad things are kept at bay.

And for daylily gardens in particular... may I also add

- Hope for that special seedling (whatever it is that you are hybridizing for)
- Hope that the daylilies open well (a problem here, with cool nights)
and
- Hope that the weather improves and the rust goes away!
