Hello, this is my first time posting! I am addicted to reading through these forums! I wanted to post my heart-leaf philodendron (apologies for the lousy cell-phone photo):
I am currently experimenting with cuttings from this plant growing them up the wall and lattices, rather than cascading down a hanger, to see if it results in larger leaves. I've read that because of their DNA, they first go through the skototropism process, growing toward darkness to reach a tree, and then changing to grow toward light and the jungle ceiling. Since as a houseplant they can never mature fully, I hope that scaling them upwards, and allowing their roots to latch on to something, that their leaves with grow larger and they will naturally grow in that direction. Anyone have experience with philos growing up rather than down and/or out?
Also, Lin, do you feed your pothos growing in water? I have one in a beautiful old vermouth bottle that was started a year ago. But it has not grown in length, and only sprouted one new leaf since. It has long healthy roots, and a couple inches of stones to wrap around the bottom of the bottle, but it's not progressing much, and turns lighter and lighter each month!
