Papaver somniferum grow just fine here; it may be that they don't like too much heat? I get volunteers from the ones that were growing here from 15 years ago even yet, and I can start them in my GH and they will do fine, although I have to be very careful to plant them in biodegradable pots, because they don't like having their roots disturbed.
