Becky, just for information, the temperatures that weather forecasters report, are actually measured "in the shade". The thermometers and other instruments are placed in special boxes, called Stevenson screens. These have slots in their sides so that air can pass freely through them and are painted white to reflect sunlight and eliminate (or reduce) its heating effect (see http://www.weatheronline.co.uk...).
