They say White Wings can tolerate shade. My white NOID is facing North and receives perhaps an hour late afternoon sun. It receives lots of bright light all day long though.

Another neighbour of mine has a double white garden NOID peony that hardly receives any sun. The plant grows among the house foundation, spruce tree and magnolia. However, year after year it produces huge, huge white flowers. I think the flowers start with a hint of green and turn to cream. If I had known the type, I would buy it. I know that it is bought in a local garden centre, so it has to be something relatively common, perhaps Duchess of Nemours.

It will be interesting to find out the parents of these peonies that can thrive in shade. I’ll try to use garden peonies more like “fillers” and groundcover, so I am looking for types that can look naturalized and take some shade.
