These are relatively young plants of 5 to 6 years including the fall planting. They are easy to divide but if one is happy with the clump and it is doing well, there is no reason to bother it in less than 10 years. They must be handled carefully when they are dug so the storage roots will not be broken off without eyes attached. Some time ago, I posted my procedure for digging fern leafs by using water pressure to hydraulically force the soil away from the roots. Messy but it works for me.
