Sue - If you're more interested in foliage than flowers, might I suggest some of the more hardy varieties...? The ones in the pic below are our "Mourning Widow" variety. we have them planted in a part sun/part shade location under a ponderosa pine tree. small flowers in spring but great, large foliage all summer long. my girl has a large clump in a 14 inch pot that sits on our deck; again, part sun/part shade. we sometimes shear them back to 5 inches and we get a second bloom. shearing them back also helps bring back fresh foliage that has been tattered by the heat of summer. had them for 4 years now, they always come back.
