It appears to be Iris Germanica, named by Linneaus in 1753. Mine also is about 26-27" with leaves about 15-17", fairly early, but of yellow on beard in throat. See http://www.missouriplants.com/... for good write-up on it. My colors below are not as dark as the real thing.
