I am assuming you have a Phalaenopsis orchid. I have often removed sphagnum moss or re-potted because the plant needed it. I never worry about the buds, particularly on Phal. I don't know that I have ever seen bud- blast because of this re-potting. I know the "wisdom" says not to do so. I guess I have just been lucky.
