Irises come in about every imaginable color except true red. They grow well almost anywhere in Zone 5a/b when given adequate care. No garden in this region is complete without them. Pictured in the banner are some very favorites; Vanity's Child, Sunshine And Snow, Holy Night, Elizabeth Poldark & Dynamite.
Now that this banner is up I am posting a complete photo of the irises used in it.
For me they are a little nostalgic since they were among some that I kept, even
though I've downsized considerably over the years. I am especially fond of Holy
Night and Elizabeth Poldark in this group. I have since eliminated Dynamite
not because of dislike, but simply because of time and space.
Vanity' Child is exceptionally nice in every way. Sunshine And Snow is a good looking iris from Schreiners.
Holy Night was introduce in 1983 by K. Mohr, and is listed as a 'purple' with a deep 'purple' beard. It is an
exquisite iris because of its velvety texture, and shifting of color hues between sun and shady conditions.
As the old saying goes, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. This one and Elizabeth Poldark need no
explanation why they have become favorites.
And of course there's Dynamite. If possible I would grow them all. But, time, age, space and other
constraints do not allow that.
