Ann, we cross posted! Fire ants are the worst! Tend to those bites quick! I've never heard of anything hosting on butterfly bush, but Buckeyes eat a lot of things in a lot of different families. Can you take a picture of the caterpillar so we can be sure it's a Buckeye?
