I have left daylilies out of water for as much as 3 weeks. Then I SOAKED them for a day and all ok. I have put them in kiddie pools when I was the one who took the left over plants from our clubs sale to be later donated to the local ARC of RI, which as one of its many outlets for developmentally and physically challenged adults includes horticultural therapy. There was some rot as the director and I could not get together for a couple of weeks and she had the volunteer pitch the tags ( now 4 years later she has decided names are important and wants me to label them...) Before I left for Atlanta I could not get to all my garden chores. I threw several H. PANDORA'S BOX on the compost pile, shaded, and they are healthier looking than the ones I heeled in or potted. Still have 1gift plant left to plant in its permanent location Herrinton's Wizard of Oz, which I will get to today. Daylilies are tough, no matter how you take care of them in this zone 6a where no air conditioner has been taken out of the closet yet. I will still be acquiring and moving throughout the season and I rarely lose a plant.
Crazy me is in the process of alphabetizing my garden by hybridizer (SIGNS jump around during the winter) and I'm only up to H. Only a few cultivars have spit out one or two blooms: Bejeweled, Lady Fingers, Lavender Tonic, Adams Street, Decatur Jewel. However, Hera Help Us ( Cunningham ) looks promising but an old favorite Promises Promises ( Warner) is already gorgeous! Multiple blooms and prolific buds. Meanwhile am hoping Green Icon ( Doorakian) will scape but Zachary Hickey is competing with it, as they are both new to me.
