I read that some growers in gall midge affected areas plant some extra early and early blooming daylilies to act as "bait traps" and purposely destroy the buds after the eggs have been laid as a way to reduce the population and spare their later bloomers. The reading suggested they only have 1 generation a year so trapping them in the egg/larvae stage might help.
