I'm sure that Ashton is going to be very happy to hear that! Hilarious!

I've had many people offer their ugly seedlings, but if my past attempts at hybridizing are any indication, I won't have any trouble creating another ugly one! I am going to do this on my own though, because of the personal nature behind it. If I'm every successful, the name will be Hybernized Easter Egg. My Dad always says hybernized, instead of hybridized. Hilarious! Even though I've created some real duds, none of them have actually been ugly enough to qualify for disgusting. I'm going for disgusting!

Try mixing yellows and purples together...I've been told that can oftentimes give you a 'dirty' seedling. Start with a couple that you know easily get waterspots, fade in a bad way in the sun, etc... That should help you get your ugly plant. Don't use heavily saturated colors.

Personally, one of the uglier cultivars I've come across was Phantom of the Opera....which was a REAL bummer for me because I'm a big POTO fan...so I purchased Broadway Phantom from Ashton and Terry (kidfishing)! It's arriving sometime this week, so I'm really excited! Hurray! But for your ugly cultivar, I'd look into the Phantom of the Opera daylily (Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Phantom of the Opera')) and maybe mix it with a splotchier yellow cultivar or even try mixing it with a brown (like Milk Chocolate) or something else.
