This is the best "plum" tomato we have grown, for sauces, canning and cooking: sweet, rich and hearty! This shot shows how beautiful they are, too....so they are indeed fine to use as appetizers, too--(example) cut longwise in half, scoop out the seeds, fill with a bit of butter, seasoned breadcrumbs, your choice of herbs, ( we use pizza thyme),and shredded cheese, and broil until cheese is melted and lightly browned. Top with bits of crumbled bacon--yummy.
Tomorrow, the maters seen here will be made into "strawberry" tomato jam, which makes not only the perfect PB&J sandwich, and marvelous gifts, but is delightful, and even looks elegant..as a topping for a brick of cream cheese, served with assorted crackers.
Viva Italia...one of our very favorite tomatoes!
