No confusion here, Lucky. I was referring to the sunburned leaves.

Where you actually cut does not really matter as far as I have ever seen. Cutting it right where the leaf-stem meets the trunk will produce more "bleeding" of that white, latex-like substance and cutting it 1/2" or even onto the leaf itself will produce less. There will always be some bleeding regardless.
