Need more information please.It might be a good idea to post a link to your question on the Cactus Forum to get better answers.

Are you trying to grow the scion alone? without re-grafting it to another cactus?
Some of the scion cactus (the top one) may have little or no chlorophyll. Do you know what type of cactus the top part is? Do you have photos?

Many times the bottom part may be Dragon Fruit cactus with is a tropical and has different growing needs than the scion cactus.
