Jan, I was certainly an odd kid. My siblings were all adults and living on their own by the time I was in 4th grade, so I had more adult friends and company than peers my own age nearby. There was a retired widower who lived in the neighborhood behind us, and a sweet older, widowed lady who lived across the street. They were both gardeners, and were the neighborhood friends I would visit.
