Background history:
'Francis of Assisi' is a semi-evergreen tetraploid introduced in 1994 by Steve Moldovan. Roy Woodhall and Steve Moldovan did their hybridizing at Moldovan's Garden in Avon, Ohio. (Both are deceased.)

Francis of Assisi is a mid-season bloomer with extended bloom and possible rebloom. It has earned the following AHS awards: Award of Merit: 2004 and Honorable Mention: 1999. It is pod and pollen fertile with 13 registered children:
