By Eric4home May 8, 2015 | Watering Your Strawberry Jars Getting your strawberry jars established with the soil intact can be challenging. I have tried various methods, such as using some coir (coconut fiber) or sphagnum moss around the transplants to hold the soil in the ports. The best method I've found is to inset a watering pipe into the center of the container as follows: (239 words - Read the full article) |

Great prices on wildflower and other seeds. Shipping is reasonable and prompt. Generous quantities of seed in the packets.
I've been getting my seeds from these guys for many years now. The quantity is smaller than some other places, but the price reflects this. They have a great selection of veggies and flowers. I don't grow acres of vegetables, so it works perfectly for me - I don't have a bunch of leftover seeds and I can try more varieties. I also get seed potatoes and other spring bulbs from them - all reliably good quality. They have a nice selection of garden books, craft supplies, seed starting supplies, and lots of interesting misc. as well. Their customer service is the best!
Good value here! Their daylilies are nice size fans and bargain basement prices. I've never had one fail to thrive. I've also had great luck with their hostas and other perennials. Product is well packed, frequently potted plants, and shipped at the right time.
My experience has been very positive with this company. All the garden tools I have bought from them are high quality and reasonably priced. (Not cheap, mind you, but good value.) We have also bought a number of woodworking tools from them which are also well made. I would not hesitate to recommend this seller.
I second what Don has already written about "Epic Tomatoes: How to Select & Grow the Best Varieties of All Time" in his review and would like to add the following: I have known Craig for many years (close to a couple of decades now?!?!?!) and can attest to his qualifications for authoring a book on this subject. He is a hands-on researcher with decades of experience working with tomatoes. "Epic Tomatoes" covers so much material, you will probably not be sitting and reading from cover to cover at one sitting. Although it is a comprehensive reference on the subject of tomatoes, Craig's writing style is easy (fun) to read. I enjoyed reading his personal journey and how he developed his interest in tomatoes, as well as the backgrounds and histories of the varieties that he highlights. On top of the histories and recommendations that Craig presents, every other topic is covered in this one book -- Biology, planting, growing, harvest help, troubleshooting tips, breeding tips, seed saving info, and more. I give it a solid thumbs-up!
Great book. The Illustrated Guide to Daylilies provides all of the information about daylilies that you could want for only 20 dollars. I highly recommend it!
I have ordered Trichogramma minutum wasp eggs twice from this company. I have been impressed with their knowledge, efficiency, and pleasant attitude each time I have spoken with them. The eggs arrived exactly when they were supposed to and in great condition. The eggs hatched perfectly. Green Methods is the online retail name of the company, but they are also known as Beneficial Insectary at the same location and with the same contact information. Here is a link to the Beneficial Insectary website: http://www.insectary.com This company is one of only two or three in the US that actually produce the beneficial wasps I use. There are other companies out there selling the wasps as "middlemen," when in fact they get them from this company or one of the few other companies that produce them. I would much rather deal with the producer. I get the product sent directly to me rather than having it sent to another company that then turns around and reships it to me.
We keep growing, because ATP is where all the excitement is these days! Check out these numbers from last week:
