I do wonder if 2 of our plants are really Rutgers they have consistently produced the smaller fruit. The other 2 have had small-medium sized fruit.
Counted fruit I could see today and it was 70! We average eating 2 tomatoes a day so we have about a month of tomato out there right now....YAY!
Heat & humidity continue here. We are getting heavy rain today. It is supposed to cool off a little next week and get a break from the humidity.
Super Sweet 100 is starting show a lot of the fungus now. But still lots of tomatoes on it.
One of the Rutgers will be getting pulled this week. It has stopped growing & producing for some reason.
Golden Girl are all doing pretty good. New tomatoes coming on. The first few were not very tasty. The ones since have been acceptable. Not a standout but good enough. They are a meaty tomato and they do have a thicker skin which some people may not like.
The first week of August had us at peak ripe tomato picking! This year has been very good compared to the last couple of years!
If we had not had such extreme heat & humidity which caused a lots of blossoms to drop this month would have been a record breaker for us! But there are still tomatoes coming. I counted 60+ last night at various stages. From teeny tiny to starting to blush.
But heat & humidity return this week with temps near 100 by the end of the week. Hoping for a good rain this week.
Layman is happy that we have had plenty of maters to eat, so I am happy.
Evening update:
I watered a little today giving each plant 2 gallons today. I also watered Saturday. I do not have any watering system nor do I have a she that reaches. So I am carrying 2 gallon watering cans from water source to the plant area! But with only 8 plants & I can carry 2 cans each trip it is only 4 trips so it is manageable.
Sprayed with Daconil this evening. All plants have started to shown signs of the usual fungus on the bottom leaves but still look pretty for August. Only one looks bad and I will probably be pulling it soon.
YAY!!!
2 Rutgers & 2 Golden Girl are blushing this morning!
