Container "journal" 2012
Posted on May 26, 2012 7:15 PM

I'll see how this years plant selections work out in the containers. This seems like an easy way to journal the progress. I'll add photos through the season.

A few random plant photos
Posted on May 5, 2012 11:52 AM

Taken May 5, 2012. Plants abnormally large/blooming after a very mild winter and warm spring. I've done some pruning and pulling in areas that are looking like a jungle. Still looks like a jungle, sigh.

From a Iris reticulata and danfordine mix:

These are always the first to come up...a small bunch of them under a dryer vent. As always it does my heart good to see them come...spring is on the way!!!

Eastern Screech Owl is still around
Posted on Nov 28, 2011 9:25 AM

A few years ago my husband and I woke up an owl while putting Christmas lights on the evergreen tree in the back yard. He flew to a nearby tree and waited until we were done decorating. I was really excited about having this lovely creature. On occasion I would look for him and on occasion he would be there tucked in some branches. Then a big snow storm came and the deep snow around the tree kept me from spying on him :( I did not see him again until April. That summer he seemed to have left the premises. I continued on occasion wistfully looking for him in the tree with no sighting. But, yesterday I spotted him once again in the tree! He was warming himself in the afternoon sun. I am so happy to have him back...well assuming it is the same owl :)
