Moving and transplanting chores today
Posted on Jun 16, 2012 11:12 AM

I started working out in the flowerbeds about 7:30 or 8 am trying to beat the heat today. I dug up some Zagreb coreopsis and divided a big hunk. Moved a few shasta daisies around, fed them Miracle Gro transplant solution and will keep them watered each day till they adjust to the transplanting. Still have some Zagreb to be planted before end of day. Have them in a bucket with some water in it..to keep the roots moist.

Hearts afire daylily blooms today
Posted on Jun 14, 2012 3:40 PM

Every morning when I go outside to pick up the morning newspaper from the driveway, I take a tour of my flowerbeds and see if anything new has popped open or about to do so. I went back to bed about 5:30 am after being wide awake for 3 hrs. and was awaken by a telephone call from our church administrator asking if we could come and help with the church bullentins today as 3 regular volunteers were not able to come today and help. I didn't get to take my flowergarden tour until after lunch and I can't tell you the joy I felt when I saw my first Hearts afire blooming! This is the plant that John and Ruby gifted me with last Sept. 2011..They gave me another one on 5/19/2012 and I think it has a bud started so maybe in a few weeks, it'll be blooming. I will keep track of my blooming times here and at DG blog for my own records. Looking forward to the others I rec'd 9/2011 blooming. They would be 2 Frans Hal, an orange, and a purple/mauve NOID from Gita..There is also a Blackberry lily that Christiane gave me that has not bloomed yet.

Snack time for Bambi and friends/family
Posted on Jun 14, 2012 2:40 AM

It's almost 4:30 am, been awake/up for 2 hrs. Read for a while and opened the front door for some fresh air and to check to make sure it wasn't raining. What do I see walking across the street but a deer munching on neighbors shubbery. no, there's two more following behind at their own pace. The first deer sees me and decides to fertilize the neighbor's yard, the others munch on J's rosebushes. I walk out in my nightgown..hope no other neighbors are awake..the two deer who are munching on J's knock out roses, proceeds to go between the two houses to see if there's something more tasty. That means I need to get the Liquid Fence out and spray all the flowerbeds today before dusk.

The Gladiolias in the rose garden bed are blooming and they are a deep burgundy/magenta color. Very pretty and very tall. I think those are the ones that I bought from Big Lots that were in a small quanity box, like mayb 10 bulbs. Not all have bloomed or had blooms. This is the second year for them.

The hydrangea bushes are blooming
Posted on Jun 12, 2012 6:00 PM

Despite the fact that the hydrangeas got hit by a hard freeze one night and all the leaves were black like it had been in  a fire, they have come back beautifully. Does not seem to be as full as last year but I didn't have Mr. L to prune and feed them back in early March..I cut 4 beautiful blooms and took them by to a nice neighbor who grows the most beautiful hostas as you'd want to see. They are hugh in size..she sprays with Liquid Fence every day or every few days to keep the deer from having a meal off them. She had told me in the Fall that I could have a start off one when she divided them. I didn't feel like I should pick one, let her chose what she wanted to give me. Well, time marched on and I guess we both forgot and she never had Mr. B to divide them so come Easter, this same neighbor brings me my own hosta plant. What a nice surprize! I planted it in a container pot and have it on our breezeway/patio area, so I can remember to spray for Liquid Fence regularly.

We might have to do a rain dance soon
Posted on Jun 11, 2012 8:49 PM

Summer is finally here! Temps have been in high 90's for last week with very little rain. It started cooling off earlier in the evening with a nice breeze and I thought we would get some rain. It would be nice if it rained lightly but a  good soaking rain all night. Temps reached 93 today, a bit down from 97 yesterday. I worked outside till about 1:30 pm and was minding the heat so I came in for rest of the afternoon. Tomorrow I won't get much done. LRE has a colonoscopy scheduled early so need to be out of house no later than 7:25 to go about 10 or 11 miles.

Another appt. for him on Wednesday..neurologist is referring us to another neurologist for another valuation.
