I've been told all my life, you have to use what the good Lord gives you! Well, in the summer I get the shade from the gum tree, but in the winter months I get those dreaded gum balls everywhere. I decided there had to be something I could do with them.

Along with gum balls, I also have lots of squirrels, I found out that if I put the gum balls in the plants I have in pots, it keeps the squirrels from digging in them. If you put them around and under your hostas, it helps keep the slugs away because they don't like the sharp edges. You can also mix the gum balls into potting soil to make it light and to make it drain well. They will break down in the soil quickly. I hope these tips will help you use these dreadful things.
