We have a small raised bed in the corner of the vegetable garden for cilantro. One year it took over the whole box and spread into the grass nearby. It was lovely to smell when you cut the grass! I've never had that much luck again, and my hopes of it self-seeding in the box to where I don't have to replant every year have not happened. So I throw seed out there most years and hope for the best. I really want a healthy crop of the stuff so I can just go cut some when I need it.

2022: The box was overgrown with weeds this year so I just dug the whole thing up and added a wheelbarrow full of compost to bring the level of the soil up again. I bought five 4" pots with 3 starts in each one, split them up, and planted. We were late getting home from Mexico this year and things have been a bit of a struggle, getting such a late start on everything. Hoping for the best, but they sat in the greenhouse for a couple weeks and were pretty root bound with each other by the time I ripped them apart. Update: I haven't been paying attention and it looks like they all went to seed. Maybe that will be a good thing? Doesn't give me much cilantro to harvest though..
2017: I'm finally started to get these established so they will self-seed themselves.
