NOID. Made up name Front Bank - by the plum tree (#1) H&T - Out in the pasture (#2), before it got moved from the Front (#3) KK - I dug most of these up and moved them to the pasture. There are still some behind the obelisk. They keep spreading here. (#4) |

Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Rose Glow') |
Have Front Bank |

Mountain Fleece (Bistorta amplexicaulis 'Firetail') |
Have Front Front Bank |
Mine are much paler than other photos show - a soft pink. I did buy this as Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Firetail', however. Persicaria has since changed to Bistorta, but the cultivar should be the same. Not sure why mine is so pale, as it is at Deb's house. Could be a mismarked 'Pink Elephant' or 'Rosea'. 2019: I had to thin these out in the front garden so the sprinkler could get past them. I moved a bunch to the front bank next to the Bishop's Weed. |
||
Siberian Pea Shrub (Caragana arborescens) |
Have Aspen Front Bank |
These do well here - even in the dry areas. I originally got a few of these from the Conservation District. They've spread, but not out of control.
Fringe Tree (Chionanthus virginicus) |
Have Front Bank |
So small after all these years. I'm hoping the new watering system will help it out.

Sea Holly (Eryngium planum) |
Have Crabapple Front Bank Dead Zone |
Gone from the Corner. Not sure if there's any left in the CA garden either.
Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus) |
Have Front Bank |
This probably wishes it had more sun or something.
Cypress Spurge (Euphorbia cyparissias 'Fen's Ruby') |
Have Aspen Corner Front Bank |
Aspen: I'm totally letting it go in here as a ground cover. I'm going to actively try to get it to spread in the dry areas along the driveway. Corner: I'm letting it go here as a ground cover as well. It looks nice and hides a lot of neglect. Front Bank: 2020 - I moved some that I dug out of the rocks to under the chokecherry as a ground cover. Rocks: This had moved in here, but I more or less have eradicated it from here. It's too busy. |
