By Newyorkrita on Oct 30, 2013 4:27 PM, concerning plant: Border Forsythia (Forsythia x intermedia 'Lynwood Variety')

I remember years ago the Forsythias never had as many flowers as the more modern types. My neighbor grows Lynwood Gold and it is just a mass of yellow blooms each spring.

Cum Laude is the only split cup daffodil that I grow. Some years back I decided to try some newer types and bought Cum Laude from Brent & Becky's Bulbs. It is an unusual color and flower shape.

By terrafirma on Oct 30, 2013 10:05 AM, concerning plant: Holly (Ilex 'Nellie R. Stevens')

Very fast growing, conical shrub or small tree. Most likely is a hybrid between Chinese holly and English holly. It will set fruit without a male, but will produce a heavier yield of berries if pollinated by a male selection of Chinese holly. A best bet for growing here in the hot and humid Southeast.

By tropicalover on Oct 30, 2013 9:21 AM, concerning plant: Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

This is such a wonderful tree! It does well inside in a container by west-facing window, but in zone 5a I doubt it will ever flower. Still, I love the scent of it! Just like being in the woods again. From what I've read, stems are not viable for rooting, but if it ever flowers and seeds, I will have them for trade. This tree is 4 years old and I will probably do distilling of the leaves sometime this spring for tea tree oil.
