Very, very tall flower scapes on this plant are covered with double lavender flowers.
  • By ViolaAnn (Ottawa, ON Canada - Zone 5a) on Nov 21, 2011 11:03 AM concerning plant: Hosta 'Fortunei Aureomarginata'
This is a real "oldie but goodie". A real show stopper in my garden, that I love. Give it time to mature and enough moisture and light and it does very well.
  • By ViolaAnn (Ottawa, ON Canada - Zone 5a) on Nov 21, 2011 11:01 AM concerning plant: Hosta 'Fair Maiden'
I had difficulty with this one which I tried to grow for several years. More often that not, it really looked not so "Fair".
  • By ViolaAnn (Ottawa, ON Canada - Zone 5a) on Nov 21, 2011 10:59 AM concerning plant: Hosta 'Emerald Ruff Cut'
This one is doing well in my garden and holds up well into the season even in a bad slug year.
  • By ViolaAnn (Ottawa, ON Canada - Zone 5a) on Nov 21, 2011 10:34 AM concerning plant: Hosta 'Center of Attention'
Very, very pretty early in the season, but mine always was in tatters before the middle of July. Finally got rid of it in 2009.
  • By ViolaAnn (Ottawa, ON Canada - Zone 5a) on Nov 20, 2011 10:02 PM concerning plant: Hosta (Hosta clausa)
clausa is highly rhizomatous and can become invasive in the right conditions. Grow it where nothing else likes to grow!

This is a quote from Hallson's listed under Hosta 'Geisha'

Comments: This is a fast growing plant with very attractive and distinctive coloring and a nice flower display. The Japanese name is Hosta. 'Ani Machi' but it was introduced in the US as H. 'Geisha'.

My image of 'Gypsy Rose' shows a plant that is confused. The markings are not normal and I'm keeping a watch on it to see what happens.
  • By ViolaAnn (Ottawa, ON Canada - Zone 5a) on Nov 20, 2011 12:35 PM concerning plant: Hosta 'Pewterware'
My picture above is NOT 'Pewterware' but rather a streaked SPORT of 'Pewterware' which was given to me by a friend. It does show the form and colour of the original plant though.

I'm assuming its characteristics are similar to 'Pewterware' and it holds up well until late August and holds the blue colour very well too.
  • By Ispahan (Chicago - Zone 6a) on Nov 7, 2011 1:47 PM concerning plant: Hosta 'Stained Glass'
An excellent and beautiful hosta that is vigorous, rapid-growing and never fails to scent the summer with its large and abundant pale icy lavender blooms. A treat for the eyes as well as the nose! The coloring of the foliage is subtle enough to mix well in many garden settings.
  • By Ispahan (Chicago - Zone 6a) on Nov 7, 2011 10:00 AM concerning plant: Hosta 'Fragrant Bouquet'
A reliable steady performer with showy, fragrant flowers. This is one of those special garden perennials that, while not flashy or exciting, always seems to be "just right."
  • By Ispahan (Chicago - Zone 6a) on Nov 6, 2011 12:56 PM concerning plant: Hosta (Hosta plantaginea)
So fragrant, so easy to grow, so attractive... Is there really a better hosta to grow than this one? Its enormous nocturnal flowers are stunning, as is the delicious perfume that wafts out into the warm, humid late summer night air. My favorite of all hostas.

H.'Remember Me' honors Sandy De Boer, a long-time Walters Gardens employee who died of breast cancer in 2000. Portions of sales are donated to the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
  • By virginiarose (Virginia - Zone 8a) on Oct 18, 2011 6:13 AM concerning plant: Hosta 'Snow Cap'
In maturity this Hosta seldom looks healthy or attractive. The growth seems to stunt with only one or two leaf displaying after several years, the edges always looking ratty and unpleasant.
  • By virginiarose (Virginia - Zone 8a) on Oct 1, 2011 6:19 PM concerning plant: Hosta 'Fragrant Bouquet'
A rapid grower and easy for any gardener to maintain. Large, funnel-shaped fragrant flowers!
