I'm not sure if anyone admires the Bull Thistle as much as I but I generally refer to weeds as wild flowers. The national symbol of Scotland is the Thistle and having a Scottish heritage it makes me admire the Thistle even more. It may be myth but it seems that when , many many years ago the Vikings were on the rampage and invading Scotland in a sneaky way and climbing up the escarpment they ran head on into some Thistles which of course when encountering sharp spines on the Thistle the sounds made by the attacking forces alerted the Scots. The bloom of the Thistle is quite pretty.

Yes, Thistles are beautiful and we are very lucky to have them.
All the pollinators love them. Eastern tiger swallowtail on Texas thistle.

They're all over one area of my rural property. Luckily, not an area we walk much. We're not fond of thorny things. And every time we drive by that patch on the entry/exit lane, the hummingbird moths and butterflies flit off the tops of them and dash out in front of the car. I think they're real pretty, too.

One wildflower I see on the roadways down to our rural property is large clumps of White Prickly Poppy. They really make a statement on a property, viewed from a distance. Wish we had a few of those on our property. I'd keep my distance, as they have thorns up and down stems and on leaves. https://images.search.yahoo.co...

I think bull thistles are beautiful plants. I want to learn how to work them into my wildflower garden without them possibly taking over.
